Ashfall Hollow Lore

Dragons founded Ashfall Hollow, located somewhere in the Rocky Mountains (possibly Colorado), during the 6th century.

A group of dragons is called a horde.

Dragons age at a human rate until they reach adulthood (age 20–25), then aging slows down based on the strength of their own magic. Strong dragons stay younger longer. Weak dragons age quicker.

When a dragon dies, their bones are burned into ash by the flames of their living family. If there is no living family, the community gathers to burn the body.

Dragons are most often not in monogamous relationships, even when they have a mate, though they can choose to be monogamous. They often have other sexual partners, or have close emotional and physical relationships with more than one person.

Dragons have a low fertility rate thus dragon pregnancy is rare.

Male omegas give birth in dragon form.

Terms

  • Cinderfather: formal address for grandfather
  • Embermother: formal address for grandmother
  • Sooty: affectionate address for grandfather
  • Puffa: affectionate address for grandmother
  • Sparklets: grandchildren
  • Hatchlings: children

Alpha parents are called Father.
Omega parents are called Mother.

Dragons refer to their omega parents as mother and alpha parents as father regardless of sex or gender identity.

Breeding Season

Dragons have a breeding season every year in the spring, with a different horde hosting each year. The dragons travel to the host horde and meet on the nesting ground for a week-long community event.

After the seven days are up, the alphas and omegas stay with the host horde for seven more days to celebrate any pregnancies that occur, or just to make new friends and see old ones.

  • Week 1 (Arrival.): Alphas and omegas begin to arrive at the host horde.
  • Week 2 (The Event): The breeding season event.
  • Week 3 (Community): Celebrating any pregnancy, making new friends, meeting old friends, and enjoying community.

Scents

Omegas in heat smell like ripe fruit, honeysuckle, sweet with a hint of spice.
Alphas in rut smell like electricity (like a thunderstorm), fire, scorched wood, ash.

Young omegas, around the age of 150 when their heats begin to grow in intensity, join a soft breeding season at a secondary location. Older alphas join them, not with the intention of truly breeding, but easing them into what to expect of a breeding season. If one falls pregnant, it’s simply a bonus.

Young alphas around the age of 100, when their ruts become wild and uncontrolled, join the breeding season with older omegas who can handle them.

Co-Parenting

If a pair of dragons are not mated and the omega falls pregnant, the omega moves to the alpha’s horde to give birth and raise the children. They can choose to stay or leave once the children are of maturity. The children can choose to stay with the alpha parent, or go with the omega parent.

Most choose to leave with their omega parent but keep close personal contact with their alpha parent and horde.
